Report: Rangers reignite interest for English midfielder, club have held talks over a move to sign him

The Scottish Sun claim that Rangers have reignited interest in midfielder John Lundstram, who saw his contract at Sheffield United expire last week. The report says talks have taken place between the two parties. Numerous clubs are keen but the report states that Rangers are ‘favourites’ to sign him.

Lundstram, 27, has been a contract rebel at Bramall Lane over the past 12 months. The ex-Everton gaffer has refused to sign a new deal and wants a move. Now, he could be on his way north of the border following Sheffield United’s relegation. Rangers have been in talks to nab his signature.

The Gers are likely to want reinforcements in the middle of the park. Bongani Zungu has left after a disappointing loan spell, while Steven Davis is now 36, and Ryan Jack is somewhat injury prone. Glen Kamara is a target for both West Ham and Everton after impressing for Finland at Euro 2020.

Rangers transfer news: Lundstram on a free is an absolute no-brainer

He is just the kind of midfielder Gerrard needs. A workhorse, but one that is able to combine his excellent engine with plenty of technical quality. Lundstram is a top, top midfielder that is a proven Premier League player. He even chips in with the odd goal or assist.

In 62 Premier League games, he had a hand in 10 goals in a side that struggled in the final third – especially in the second half of the season. Getting him on a free hands Rangers with another top talent in the middle of the park. It significantly improves the side ahead, for nothing.

TransferMarkt claim he is represented by the same agency as Connor Goldson and Fashion Sakala.

In other Rangers transfer news aside from Lundstram, the Gers are eyeing a deal for Caleb Chukwuemeka.
