Rangers transfer: Gers reportedly want teenage striker previously linked with PL pair - and his contract expires in January

Rangers may be looking to battle two Premier League sides to bring one transfer target to Ibrox, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Gers are eyeing a deal for Caleb Chukwuemeka.

Chukwuemeka looks to be in an interesting situation at Northampton Town. As reported by the Daily Mail, his youth contract with the Cobblers expires next January.

He has been offered professional terms. But he is seemingly attracting a lot of high-profile attention.

The likes of Aston Villa and Norwich City were linked with the 19-year-old last year. His brother is on the books at Villa Park.

But the Daily Mail is now reporting that Rangers are looking to sign the starlet, who can play up front or out on the wing.

In fact, it is claimed that he could cost just £60,000 should he move at the end of his contract.

Could Rangers replicate Aribo transfer?

Rangers have clearly got a good eye on which players are soon to be out of contract.

And for some, this pursuit may evoke memories of the 2019 move for Joe Aribo.

The Nigeria international was signed at the end of his contract with Charlton Athletic. And he has gone on to become a key man for Steven Gerrard’s side.

So perhaps a fresh move for another EFL youngster coming towards the end of his contract could prove just as impressive.

Gers may not need to wait until January – if they mirror move for Glen Kamara

Signing a youngster from the EFL may remind some of the pursuit of Aribo. But there could also be parallels drawn between their Chukwuemeka interest and their pursuit of Glen Kamara.

As things stand, Chukwuemeka is not available until January. However, if Rangers agree a pre-contract deal in the near future, surely Northampton may be open to discussing an immediate sale.

Rangers managed to sign Kamara ahead of time after agreeing a pre-contract deal.

So perhaps the Gers are looking to pave the way towards something similar this summer.
