Report: PL rival make bid for £38m Leeds United and Everton target, he’s a ‘special’ talent

Everton and Leeds United target Cody Gakpo has been the target of a bid from a Premier League rival.

The Athletic report that the Dutch winger has attracted interest from a number of clubs this summer.

Southampton are believed to be the club who have made the most concrete offer for Gakpo, having a bid rejected by PSV Eindhoven.

Everton and Leeds have both been interested in the Dutch international this summer as they look to improve their attacking options.

Gakpo was even a target for Manchester United at one point, with Erik ten Hag’s side now looking more likely to sign Ajax winger Antony.

The ‘special’ talent’s future could go down to the wire this week, as a bidding war could break out if another team decides to bid against Southampton.

Valued at £38m this summer, Gakpo would be an expensive target for Everton or Leeds.

Everton have been aiming to strengthen their forward line this summer after losing Richarlison to Tottenham.

The future of winger Anthony Gordon is up in the air, and if he does leave, that money would go some way to bringing in a replacement like Gakpo.

Everton have brought in another centre-forward, with Neal Maupay joining from Brighton.

But Gakpo is a very different player, and would likely go straight into the starting line-up.

Leeds have made a point of being very careful in their pursuit of a forward this summer.

Charles de Ketelaere was their main target, but chose to move to AC Milan instead.

Marsch has been coy about how much Leeds have to spend on a forward this window.

The Athletic report that they may have found the funds for De Ketelaere, but wouldn’t be willing to spend as much on a target they weren’t as convinced by.

Southampton have set the ball rolling by putting in their bid, and this might force Everton and Leeds to act.
