Report: Newcastle's interest in £60m PL player is actually very 'strong', he could still be relegated

It really was a shock when Newcastle United were linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin a few months ago, but it now looks like their interest is actually very strong.

That’s what The Daily Mail have claimed this week as we near the end of the season and approach the start of what is expected to be a really important transfer window for the Magpies.

Newcastle signed Chris Wood in the January transfer window and tried incredibly hard to bring another centre-forward in. That, however, was not possible, but it’s almost certain that they will sign a new number nine this summer.

Eddie Howe’s side have been linked with a number of players already, including Calvert-Lewin, who is expected to be on the move before the start of next season.

Newcastle hold strong interest in Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The Telegraph first claimed back in January that Newcastle are interested in signing Calvert-Lewin. Nobody really expected that then, but it looks like it is a very serious possibility now.

The report claims that Calvert-Lewin will be on his way out of Everton this summer, and Newcastle, along with Arsenal, hold a ‘strong’ interest in the £60 million-rated Englishman.

The Toffees aren’t in a great position at the moment. They are currently 18th and although survival is in their own hands, there’s a very real chance that they could get relegated.

If that happens, Calvert-Lewin could well be available for a bargain fee, but even if Everton stay up, the report claims that the striker will be sold.

TBR View:

If Calvert-Lewin is fit and available, it really is a no-brainer for Newcastle to make a move for him. If Everton go down, it becomes an even easier decision.

The Englishman is arguably England’s second-best striker behind Harry Kane.

He is probably the best centre-forward in the air in the Premier League, he showed last season that he’s good with his feet too and if he gets the right service, he will score goals.

Newcastle will have to bring in a new striker this summer no matter what and if it’s Calvert-Lewin, they could well become a force to be reckoned with next season.
