Newcastle United are ready to muscle in on Arsenal’s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and have already made initial contact over a potential deal.
That’s according to a report from The Mirror this weekend anyway. Their printed edition (17/04, P77), claims that Calvert-Lewin is on Newcastle’s shopping list and that enquiries have already been made from both the Toon and Arsenal higher-ups.
Calvert-Lewin has struggled for goals this season in an Everton side battling near the foot of the table. However, he is highly-rated and reports as recently as last month have claimed Arsenal are still dead keen. Indeed, the Gunners have tracked Calvert-Lewin for some time, as they search for a new number nine.

But Newcastle’s interest and willingness to make initial contact will worry Arsenal. The Magpies all but assured their Premier League status this afternoon with a win over Leicester City. The plan for PIF now is to put together a strategy for the summer in which the club can look to bring in new players to improve the squad.
Calvert-Lewin, who Everton are thought to value at around the £50m mark, would certainly be a step in the right direction for this Newcastle team.
TBR’s View: Calvert-Lewin Needs Move To Get Going Again
Sometimes a player can simply go stale at a club and that seems to be what’s happened with Calvert-Lewin. There is no questioning his ability or commitment. But the goals have seriously dried up, and Everton are probably right to consider cashing in.
For Newcastle, the ‘fantastic‘ Calvert-Lewin would be a good buy. They’ve done well with Chris Wood as a focal point but ‘DCL’ probably brings what Wood does and a bit more to the table.
£50m is a hefty chunk of change. But that’s the going rate for strikers now and Newcastle do have the money.
