Arsenal ‘cool’ their interest in signing 25-year-old PL striker, he hasn’t scored a goal for eight months

Arsenal’s interest in signing Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reportedly ‘cooled’, according to the Telegraph.

After scoring in the first three Premier League games of the season, Everton’s number nine has had an injury-ravaged campaign which has had a huge impact on the Toffees ongoing struggles.

The 25-year-old hasn’t scored since August and Frank Lampard will be desperately hoping that the England marksman rediscovers his goalscoring touch ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to Burnley.

After suffering a fractured toe, the former Sheffield United youngster missed 14 Premier League games from September to December.

The eleven-time England international’s solitary assist for the campaign could prove to be a crucial one as it allowed Alex Iwobi to score the last-gasp winner against Newcastle United last month.

After missing out on Serbian superstar Dusan Vlahovic who moved to Juventus from Fiorentina in January, the Sun recently claimed that Calvert-Lewin has been identified as a key summer target for the Gunners.

But after a difficult campaign which has been blighted with injuries and a surprising relegation battle, Calvert-Lewin is seemingly not at the top of Mikel Arteta’s wish-list given his ongoing struggles in front of goal.

The north London side who are hoping to secure Champions League football next season may reignite their interest in the physical forward if the Merseysiders do lose their Premier League status.

If the Goodison Park side do get relegated to the Championship then Calvert-Lewin could well be available for a cut price like Richarlison to offset the inevitable financial losses of no longer being in the Premier League.

Demarai Gray has previously lauded Calvert-Lewin as a ‘proper goalscorer’, as he told Sky Sports.

With competition for places in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad intensifying, Calvert-Lewin will be well aware that plying his trade in the Championship is going to significantly dampen his chances of being part of the squad that travels to Qatar.

With 10 Premier League games remaining, Calvert-Lewin is going to have hit a real purple patch to match the 16 top-flight goals he scored last season.

But if he rekindles the form that he showed at the very start of the season, a flurry of goals could be all it takes to keep Everton afloat and for Arsenal’s interest to become somewhat warmer once again.
