Report: Newcastle willing to pay £33m for title-winner today
Newcastle United are interested in a deadline day move for Renan Lodi, but Mundo Deportivo reports Diego Simeone deems the idea of the left-back leaving Atletico Madrid unthinkable.
The Magpies look to be closing in on a deal for Matt Targett. It has been reported that they are not far away from being able to announce a loan move for the Aston Villa defender.
Interestingly however, reports from Spain have suggested that he is not the only left-back on their radar. Mundo Deportivo claims that the Magpies also have their eye on Lodi.
In fact, they are prepared to offer around £33 million for the 23-year-old. However, Mundo Deportivo adds that agreeing a move would be nearly impossible.
Atleti do not want to lose Lodi on the final day of the window. Simeone meanwhile, views the prospect of the Brazilian leaving unthinkable.
Newcastle moving to Lodi surely going to have wait for another day as Targett moves edges closer
It is intriguing that Newcastle are now being linked with Lodi. The Magpies have certainly made some statements in the market. And signing the title-winner would be another.
However, the move for Targett looks to be close. And Newcastle have their eye on other deals. They are looking to press ahead with a move for Hugo Ekitike.
Meanwhile, Atletico are clearly in no mood to sell Lodi.
It may be something that comes back onto the radar in the summer. But surely, there is little chance of anything taking place in the coming hours.
