Newcastle United now believe that they will reach an agreement to sign Hugo Ekitike, with The Telegraph reporting on their live transfer blog (31/1; 8:28) that the Magpies are ready to agree an initial fee of around £15 million.
Ekitike has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this month. The likes of Tottenham and West Ham are also said to be admirers of the 19-year-old, who has eight Ligue 1 goals this season.

The Telegraph notes that Reims had wanted £33 million for the teenager. And that appeared to put Newcastle off a move for Ekitike.
However, a breakthrough appears to have been made. Newcastle now think that there is a deal to be done. And interestingly, it is claimed that they are closing in on an agreement worth £15 million. Bonuses would then add to the overall fee.

The report adds that West Ham could be brought into the race by Newcastle’s progress.
Newcastle signing Ekitike on deadline day could be ideal way to round off window
Newcastle look to have given themselves a brilliant chance of staying in the Premier League. They won their final game before the winter break. And they have made some shrewd signings in this window.
Landing Ekitike at the last would be a superb way to bring the curtain down on January. He has been described as a ‘very special‘ talent. And landing him for less than half of what Reims valued him at would be quite something.
