Report: Newcastle sources suspect their ‘outstanding’ player has been trying to hide an injury from club staff

Newcastle United face arguably their toughest test of the season tonight when they travel to The Emirates to face Arsenal.

Eddie Howe’s side are unbeaten since August, and will want to continue that run this evening.

A report from The Telegraph has given an exciting update on Newcastle’s squad going into the game.

Howe has been fortunate enough to be able to stick with the same back line throughout the season.

It’s helped them keep more clean sheets than any other Premier League side.

Newcastle have had a number of attacking injuries throughout the campaign that they’ve dealt with very well.

Callum Wilson returned to action off the bench against Leeds, and could get the nod to start tonight.

However, Newcastle fans have barely seen record signing Alexander Isak since arriving from Real Sociedad.

The Telegraph now suggest that Isak has been trying to hide an injury since joining the club.

Thankfully, they now believe he could be in line to play against Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup this weekend.

Newcastle forward Isak has been trying to hide an injury since signing

The report says that, ‘There is a suspicion Isak arrived on Tyneside with a slight injury and did not admit it as he was desperate to make an immediate impact at his new club.’

It’s a noble strategy from the young Swede, but may have cost him the chance to play more regularly this season.

Isak made an immediate impact at St. James’ Park, scoring on his debut against Liverpool.

However, he’s only played two more league games since, although he did dispatch a penalty against Bournemouth.

The ‘outstanding’ forward will be a big boost to Newcastle’s European ambitions when he’s finally back in action.

It will be interesting to see if Howe plays him alongside Wilson or rotates the two forwards.

Given they’ve both had fitness issues this season, managing their minutes carefully may be the best strategy.

Newcastle will be hoping that Isak doesn’t try to hide anymore injuries while at the club.

His fitness could be the difference between the Magpies returning to the Champions League or missing out on European football altogether.
