Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak received praise from BBC Sport pundit Dion Dublin in Wednesday’s Premier League trip to Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies headed to Anfield to take on a Reds side that had hammered Bournemouth 9-0 at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Newcastle were hoping to get back to winning ways after three Premier League draws in a row.

And the Magpies excelled in the first half, with Isak opening the scoring on his debut.

On 38 minutes, Sean Longstaff played a pass which breaks the lines to play the Swede in on goal.

Isak duly buried the ball into the roof of the Liverpool net, and Dublin loved what he saw from the new signing.

“What an unbelievable finish on the angle,” Dublin said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Isak has been looking lively all game. He didn’t take a touch, he just put it in the net at pace.”

And at half time, Dublin added: “Isak has been absolutely outstanding and worked really hard for the side.

“Eddie Howe has got this first 45 minutes absolutely spot on.”

Isak then had the ball in the back of the net in the 54th minute, but the flag was up for offside.

The former Real Sociedad ace broke clear of the defence, got into the box and then lifted the ball past Alisson.

“His shoulder was just offside,” said Dublin.

“He went a little bit too early but it was a cool finish, he didn’t know he was offside.”

Liverpool eventually drew level on the hour mark.

Mohamed Salah cut the ball back for Roberto Firmino, who drove a low first-time shot into the back of the net.

And then, there was heartbreak for Newcastle in the eighth minute of injury time, with Fabio Carvalho netting the winner.
