According to The Athletic, Fabian Schar is now happier than he has ever been at Newcastle United thanks to Eddie Howe.
The Swiss international is into his fourth year at St James’ Park and he has had his ups and downs. He has produced moments of magic, but there have been times where he has struggled on the pitch as well.
That is one of the reasons why he fell out under Steve Bruce. The ex-Magpies boss wanted him gone when he was at the helm and it really did look like he would leave the club in January.
However, Howe came in and everything changed.
Fabian Schar cannot stop smiling at Newcastle under Eddie Howe
The report claims that Schar felt underappreciated and ‘pretty unwanted’ under Bruce when he was at the club. That made him want to leave Newcastle but Howe has changed his mind.
The new Magpies boss reportedly held a one-on-one meeting with Schar right after he was appointed. He stressed in the chat that he really values him and he’ll play a big part under him.
Howe also brought up Schar’s situation to Newcastle’s board during his interviews. He reportedly told PIF that he saw the Swiss international as a crucial player for his plans.
As a result, Schar is the happiest man at the club now. The report claims that there has been a transformation in his demeanour, with one source even telling them that they have never seen him smile so much.

New contract
It was claimed last week that a new contract for Schar is in the works at Newcastle and it’s only a matter of time before he extends his stay at the club.
The 30-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of this season. His recent form would’ve certainly attracted a number of clubs, but his future looks like it’s under Howe at Newcastle.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out for the Magpies in the summer. If they stay up, they are expected by many to make multiple big signings before the start of next season.
At least one of those signings will be a new centre-half and we’re all curious to know if that player will partner Schar at the back or take his place in the side.
