Newcastle United have been given a boost in their attempts to land a forward this summer, with i News reporting that Burnley have given them encouragement over a possible deal for Maxwel Cornet.
Eddie Howe has been left frustrated so far this window as the club have failed to bring in attacking reinforcements.
The Toon missed out on Hugo Ekitike as the forward completed a switch to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports suggest that the club have also had a bid for Leeds United man Jack Harrison rejected and now it seems they may turn their attention to the ‘excellent’ Cornet.
The Burnley winger was relegated from the Premier League last season but was a standout performer during the campaign and he has now caught the eye of Newcastle.

Newcastle given encouragement over singing Cornet
The Ivory Coast international missed the first Championship game of the season against Huddersfield and has been heavily linked with a move away from Turf Moor.
Leeds and Burnley remain apart on their valuation of the player but it seems that Newcaslte could sign him this summer.
Despite missing the first game of the new season, the 25-year-old could return for Burnley’s game against Luton.

Howe is clearly eyeing moves for attacking players this summer and Newcastle are also reportedly keen on Leicester’s Harvey Barnes, but he will cost them around £50 million.
Cornet would represent a cheaper option for the club and was brilliant in a relegated Burnley side last season.
In his debut Premier League campaign, the winger managed nine goals and one assist in a struggling side.
TBR’s View: Cornet would be a brilliant alternative to Barnes
Cornet is clearly a talented player and adjusted to the Premier League brilliantly last season after making the switch from Lyon last summer.
The Ivorian was often playing in a defensive team under Sean Dyche but still managed to put up decent numbers in his first season for the Clarets.
Under an attack-minded coach like Howe, Cornet could produce even better numbers and is a player that offers more end product than Allan Saint-Maximin, who managed five goals under Howe last season.
