Report: Newcastle want Harvey Barnes, but face paying £50m
Newcastle United are interested in signing Leicester City attacking midfielder Harvey Barnes as they continue to look at bolstering their options further forward, according to a report from The Sun.
The Magpies look set to be big players in the final weeks of the transfer window. Eddie Howe is still awaiting his first addition of the summer further up the pitch.
Reports this week claimed that they had made a bid for Jack Harrison. Meanwhile, they have also been linked with Anthony Gordon.
But The Sun suggests that Barnes is the latest name to be added to the radar. However, he will not come cheap by any means.
According to The Sun, Leicester want £50 million for Barnes. And they will not consider a lower fee for the 24-year-old.
That may prompt Newcastle to step up their interest in Harrison as he is the cheaper of the three players.
Barnes would be an outstanding signing for Newcastle
Barnes’ form has dipped at times since he got his chance at the King Power Stadium. However, he has largely been hugely impressive across the last three seasons.
In fact, he has 46 goal involvements in 112 games in the top-flight. And he contributed 10 assists for Brendan Rodgers’ men last season, despite perhaps not being at his best.
He is a player Jurgen Klopp once labelled ‘unbelievable‘. And he has time to develop further.
So he would be an amazing signing for Newcastle if a deal is possible.
Clearly, the asking price will be a concern. Newcastle will need Barnes to step up from the get-go should he move to Tyneside.
But he definitely has the talent to make that step up.
