Newcastle United are interested in signing James Ward-Prowse from Southampton this summer, according to a report from the Daily Mirror.
Ward-Prowse is being tracked by a host of Premier League sides. This past season proved to be a very forgettable one for the Saints as they did not finish too far clear of the bottom three.

But Ward-Prowse was in ‘unbelievable‘ form. The 27-year-old scored 11 goals in all competitions, with 10 of those strikes coming in the top-flight.
Of course, the England international is synonymous with an incredible ability from set-piece situations. But his game is about so much more than that. And it would be a huge blow for the Saints to lose him.

Reports have claimed that he is valued at around £75 million. Tottenham are admirers of the midfielder. But the Daily Mirror suggests that both Newcastle and West Ham also want Ward-Prowse.
The Hammers are looking at Ward-Prowse as David Moyes looks to revamp his midfield options. But clearly, Newcastle will back themselves to compete with many of their Premier League rivals.
Reports have claimed that the Magpies’ maximum budget this summer could be just £100 million. So that would certainly deal a blow to their hopes of landing Ward-Prowse.
Newcastle interested in Ward-Prowse
Newcastle signing Ward-Prowse would be an amazing piece of business. He is at the peak of his powers right now. And Eddie Howe is well on his way towards putting together a really impressive group.
A key member of the side is Bruno Guimaraes. And Newcastle may be dreaming of pairing him with Ward-Prowse in the middle of the park on Tyneside.
There is plenty of competition for his signature. And Southampton are not going to let him go without a fight. Ward-Prowse would also find it difficult to move away from St Mary’s given his love for the club.
But Newcastle would not regret asking the question about his availability this summer.
