Report: Newcastle believe they can tempt Jack Harrison to join from Leeds

Newcastle United believe that they have the means to tempt Jack Harrison into a move this summer, with The Athletic reporting that Leeds United are well aware of their interest in the winger.

With Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha now gone from Elland Road, focus – in terms of outgoings – has somewhat shifted to what the future holds for Harrison.

Reports earlier in the summer claimed that both the Magpies and Tottenham were considering the 25-year-old. He ended last season with eight Premier League goals, including the final day winner that all but ensured that Jesse Marsch’s men would be staying up.

However, much of the talk had centred around Phillips and Raphinha. But with the pair now sold, Harrison’s future is under the spotlight.

Reports in Italy claimed that Newcastle had made a bid of just under £24 million for the winger. Leeds meanwhile, want £35 million.

And The Athletic has now provided a further update. It is suggested that the Whites are very much aware that Newcastle want Harrison, and have already snubbed a £17 million bid.

But Eddie Howe’s men do not want to pay more than £25 million – despite Leeds’ asking price.

Interestingly, the report adds that Newcastle believe that they have the means to tempt Harrison into a switch.

Newcastle believe they can tempt Jack Harrison into move

You can understand why Harrison may consider such a move. Newcastle, under new ownership, appear to have an incredibly high ceiling, providing a glimpse of their potential during the second-half of last season.

Meanwhile, much has changed at Leeds. And it is still somewhat unclear if Jesse Marsch is the right man to take the club forward.

Newcastle would also probably offer Harrison a better contract than the one he signed at Leeds.

What will not help the Magpies is how close the season is. Leeds will not want to lose him so late in the day and face having to replace him too.

Harrison has been labelled an ‘unbelievable‘ player. So it may not be too long before Leeds dig their heels in, set their price, and avoid negotiations unless Newcastle meet it.
