Newcastle United are battling the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal for Jonathan David, according to a report from Jeunes Footeux.

The Magpies have put themselves in a strong position in the battle to beat the drop in the Premier League. They are unbeaten in their last five, winning three.

And of course, Eddie Howe’s side will be the ones to watch this summer should they manage to preserve their top-flight status. Many of those January targets who had reservations about moving to Tyneside while a relegation battle was on the cards may have none of those concerns this summer.

They will certainly push the boat out. And one of the players Newcastle plan to make a move for may well be David. Jeunes Footeux notes that the Magpies are fighting Arsenal and Liverpool for the Canadian.

David has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, including 12 in Ligue 1.

Reports claimed ahead of the January window that Arsenal had been contact with his agents. Meanwhile, his asking price is said to be around £30 million.

Interestingly, David recently told Telefoot (via Jeunes Footeux) that every player is attracted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League.

“What happens next, we’ll see. The Premier League attracts everyone. It is the most competitive championship in the world. It’s a very good championship,” he said.

Jonathan David an exciting target for Newcastle as they prepare for Arsenal and Liverpool battle

Newcastle must bolster their striker ranks this summer. None of their players have been particularly prolific. And Callum Wilson has struggled with injury once again.

David would be an extremely exciting signing for Newcastle. He has been described as a ‘phenomenon‘ in the past. And he now has 25 goals in 62 games in Ligue 1. And he only turned 22 last month.

Clearly, Liverpool and Arsenal are likely to provide stern competition. The Gunners, in particular, must sign at least one new goalscorer when the window opens.

But plenty of sides will fear what Newcastle will be capable of when the window opens, too.
