West Ham United are still interested in signing Belgian midfielder Hans Vanaken this summer.

The report from Voetbal Belgie says David Moyes is still a big fan of the 30-year-old.

The Hammers are getting closer to signing Brazilian international Lucas Paqueta.

However, the report from the Belgian outlet suggests Moyes wants Vanaken to follow the Lyon playmaker to the London Stadium before the transfer window closes.

West Ham’s latest proposal to Club Brugge was a £9.3m bid with £1.7m in add-ons, but this was ‘laughed at’ by the Belgian club.

Club Brugge are looking for an offer for between up to £17m to let Vanaken the Jan Breydel Stadium before the window shuts.

West Ham still interested in signing Vanaken

David Moyes clearly isn’t happy some aspects of his squad going into this season.

Although Lucas Paqueta is a more advanced midfielder than Vanaken, you can see why Moyes would be interested in signing both of them.

Vanaken would provide competition for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek in a slightly deeper role than Paqueta is likely to play.

The ‘incredible’ midfielder has an amazing record in front of goal, reaching double figures on six separate occasions in his career.

He also contributes a good number of assists, but holds his own in a defensive capacity as well.

West Ham have started the season in poor form, and are currently the only team without a point in the Premier League.

They have advanced to the group stages of the Europa Conference League after a midweek win over Viborg.

Vanaken is clearly happy to trade playing in the Champions League with Club Brugge for football in a weaker European competition.

Whether a deal can be done before deadline day is now the question, with West Ham’s interest being balanced with the potential cost of the prolific Belgian.
