Report: Manchester City have just made move to sign 'electric' Tottenham target, they have the upper hand now

Tottenham Hotspur’s desire to sign a new attacker in January is now well known.

Antonio Conte is always on the lookout to bring in new players, and wants ‘quality’ cover for Dejan Kulusevski.

A report from Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb has delivered a worrying update on one potential target.

Conte is always keen to dip into Serie A to improve the squad at his disposal at Spurs.

The likes of Kulusevski, Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur have all thrived since arriving from Italy.

It’s helped Spurs maintain their place in the top four despite the brilliant seasons Arsenal and Newcastle are having.

Conte isn’t going to settle for what he has though, and may be about to lose two of his forward options.

Lucas Moura’s time at the club could be coming to an end soon, while Bryan Gil looks set to go out on loan.

Tottenham have been linked with signing AC Milan winger Rafael Leao in their place.

However, TuttoMercatoWeb believe Spurs now face competition from Man City who have contacted Leao and are ‘serious’ about signing him.

Tottenham may now face an uphill battle to win the race to sign the Portuguese.

Man City make contact with Leao

The Italian outlet suggests that Pep Guardiola’s side want to offer Leao a €12m [£10.6m] a year deal to join his side.

It’s nearly double what AC Milan are willing to offer Leao to extend his current contract which runs out in 2024.

The report goes on to say that Man City now have the upper hand in the pursuit of Leao.

Leao is a direct left winger with brilliant output in the final third.

He’s already recorded six goals and five assists in Serie A.

The 23-year-old would offer Conte a direct alternative to Son Heung-min, which he doesn’t currently possess.

However, with Man City now making contact with Leao and offering such a large deal, Spurs may struggle to compete.

Chelsea are also very much interested in Leao, and Tottenham might now be better off identifying alternative targets.
