Willian had the chance to emulate another South American attacker and move to Ligue 1 this summer with L’Equipe reporting that the Arsenal man was offered a two-year deal by Lyon.

Willian looks set to leave the Emirates in the final hours of the transfer window. In fact, the Daily Mail reported that he is ready to tear up his contract and save the Gunners £20 million.

It comes with Corinthians working to sign the 33-year-old.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Willian is indeed on his way back to Brazil. He will fly out tomorrow and sign a two-year deal.

But he could have been set for a much shorter flight had Lyon acted sooner.

According to L’Equipe, Willian’s representatives have claimed that he was offered a two-year deal by Les Gones. And he was interested in joining the Ligue 1 side.

However, it is being reported that the offer came too late with Willian already agreeing a deal with Corinthians.

Arsenal will be delighted to have several options on the table for Willian amid Lyon links

It does appear that Willian will soon join Corinthians. But Arsenal will be wary of getting carried away while the move is not yet confirmed.

If he cannot secure a move away, he may have second thoughts about tearing up his contract at the Emirates.

So having more options on the table is a boost for Arsenal, as well as Willian himself.

Lyon are interested. AC Milan were linked over the weekend. So if there are any problems with the move to Corinthians, Arsenal may still be able to find a way to move him off the books.
