Report: AC Milan look set to sign Willian from Arsenal
There may yet be a twist as Arsenal look to offload Willian in the final days of the transfer window with AC Milan apparently looking set to sign the Brazilian, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (29/8; page 66).
The Gunners are, understandably, working to try and move Willian on before the deadline passes.
The 33-year-old has endured a torrid time at the Emirates. And as noted by the Daily Mail, he is on £220,000-a-week in North London.
It had appeared that Willian was set to do Arsenal a huge favour. It was reported that he was ready to tear up the rest of his contract and miss out on earning up to £20 million.
That would pave the way for the former Chelsea man to join Corinthians.
But perhaps, Willian may actually end up heading elsewhere.
According to the Sunday Mirror (29/8; page 66), AC Milan look set to sign Willian. It is claimed that the Rossoneri want to pay £7 million plus add-ons for the attacking midfielder. And they hope to wrap up a deal tomorrow.
The Mirror suggests that Arsenal want £9 million.
Arsenal unlikely to dig heels in on Willian asking price with AC Milan not far away from valuation
Willian agreeing to rip up his contract to set up a move to Corinthians would provide a huge boost to Arsenal.
But getting any sort of fee would also be fantastic for Mikel Arteta’s men. Of course, it remains to be seen if Milan want some of his wages covered as part of a deal.
But it is hard to see Arsenal digging their heels in over the asking price. Milan are willing to pay £7 million plus add-ons. So Arsenal are unlikely to let a deal fall through because they want £9 million.
Crucially, Arsenal look to have options as they look to move Willian on. They surely cannot let the opportunity to secure his exit pass them by.
