According to a CalcioMercato, Liverpool are ‘ready to attack’ Inter Milan to sign Lautaro Martinez in the summer transfer window.

The Reds are extremely strong in attack at the moment. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane won them the title a few years ago and they’re still going strong, while Diogo Jota and now Luiz Diaz have been just as good.

However, things could look very different in the summer. Salah, Firmino and Mane will all enter the final year of their contracts and Liverpool will have a decision to make. Keeping hold of the Egyptian will be their priority, which could mean they’ll have to let one of the other two go.

Firmino may well be the one who walks away and it looks like Martinez is the man Klopp wants in his place. However, the Inter Milan superstar will cost a fortune this summer.

Inter Milan want £75m from Liverpool for Lautaro Martinez

Martinez has constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League over the last eight months.

Arsenal and Spurs were the teams rumoured to have been interested in his services, but it now looks like Liverpool could be the ones who could lure him to Anfield.

Inter Milan are prepared to let him leave for Liverpool or any other club in the summer but only if their asking price of £75 million is met.

It’s not a problem for a club as big as Liverpool to afford that figure but if they agree to Inter’s demands, Martinez will become their record signing along with Virgil van Dijk, who also cost them the same fee in January 2018. (BBC)

£75 million is a lot of money but the last time Liverpool spent that figure on one player, he became the best defender in the world and helped them win the Premier League and the Champions League.

Martinez, labelled as a ‘spectacular‘ striker by Lionel Messi, may not have as big an impact as the Dutchman, but he’s still a phenomenal player. He would be a great replacement to Firmino, who is 30 already and will soon enter the final year of his contract.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the coming months.

If Inter let the world know they’re ready to sell Martinez, plenty of other top clubs will move in for him. That will complicate things for Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp will back his side to get a deal done if he really wants the Argentine.
