Italian outlet CalcioMercato revealed earlier this week that Arsenal could sign Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez in the summer. That should infuriate Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

Fans of the two North London clubs don’t like each other and they want their side to better the other in everything they do, on and off the pitch.

Tottenham have had the upper hand in recent years thanks to their league position, but that could change this time as Arsenal look the favourites to break into the top-four ahead of their local rivals.

If that happens, their chances of success in the summer transfer window will increase as well, and they could sign one of Tottenham’s biggest targets from last year.

Arsenal could sign Lautaro Martinez in the summer

Arsenal will soon be striker-less. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left already while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both expected to walk away as free agents at the end of this season.

The report claims that Martinez could leave the San Siro in the summer, even though he only signed a new contract in October. Arsenal are said to be keen and if the Gunners can pull it off, it would be a massive statement of intent.

Martinez has scored 12 goals already this season, more than any Arsenal player. He is one of the best strikers in the world, even Lionel Messi is a huge fan and has already labelled him as ‘spectacular‘.

If Arsenal can get this deal done, they won’t just be signing a brilliant player, they’ll annoy many Spurs fans as well.

Tottenham had a deal in place to sign Martinez six months ago

This isn’t the first time Arsenal have been linked with a move for Martinez. The Gunners and Spurs were both trying to sign him last summer and Tottenham were even the favourites for his signature.

The Times reported in August, just over six months ago, that Spurs had agreed a £60 million deal with Inter Milan for Martinez. The Nerazzurri even gave the green light for Tottenham to strike a deal with Argentine and a move looked very likely at that point.

However, Martinez rejected Spurs and decided to sign a new contract. His deal runs till the summer of 2026, but Inter’s financial problems could force them to cash in on him before the start of next season.

That’s what Arsenal are hoping for and if Edu somehow manages to get this deal over the line, Tottenham fans will surely be left infuriated.
