Leeds United plan to make a bid for Lewis O’Brien again this summer, with The Sun reporting that the Huddersfield Town star could cost £10 million – if the Terriers fail to seal promotion in today’s play-off final.

O’Brien seemed to be a top target in both of Marcelo Bielsa’s final two windows. Talks took place last summer. And reports in January claimed that Victor Orta was ready to trigger his release clause.

However, no move took place on either occasion. And Leeds remain on the lookout for a central midfielder. It is certainly a situation that has infuriated supporters. Sam Greenwood made his full Premier League debut in the role on the final day of the campaign in what seemed a must-win game at Brentford.

It appears that Leeds will have one very keen eye on events at Wembley today. The Sun reports that Jesse Marsch’s men are still interested in O’Brien. And they could land him for just £10 million if Carlos Corberan’s side fail to get promoted.

Huddersfield meanwhile, hope to offer him a new contract if they go up. They plan to try and get rid of the low release clause.

Leeds plan Lewis O’Brien bid

O’Brien has looked a class apart in the second tier this season. And it appears that he will get the opportunity to shine in the Premier League whatever happens against Nottingham Forest.

He has been described as a ‘very special‘ player by Corberan. And Leeds do tend to keep targets on their radar for a lengthy period of time, particularly if they have not moved anywhere.

The Whites cannot afford to let the window close without strengthening in the middle of the park. And O’Brien could be a really shrewd addition – particularly if he is indeed available for just £10 million.
