Report: Leeds interested in signing West Ham starlet Sonny Perkins
Leeds United are interested in a move for West Ham forward Sonny Perkins as they target bolstering their under-23 ranks during the summer transfer window, according to a reporter from The Athletic.
Leeds are making progress on strengthening their first-team squad. Brenden Aaronson has already joined. And reports have suggested that they have now bid for Rasmus Kristensen.
But they also continue to work on improving their under-23 squad.
The Athletic reports that they now want to sign Perkins from West Ham, while they also hope to land George Hall.
Reports this week claimed that Leeds had made the first move for Hall. And it appears that they also want to bring Perkins in from the London Stadium.
Leeds interested in Sonny Perkins
It would be a surprise if West Ham were open to selling the 18-year-old. He got the chance to make his first-team debut this past season. And David Moyes has given him a couple of opportunities in the Europa League.
He has really shone for the under-23s. Perkins has scored 10 goals in 20 Premier League 2 games this past season. Meanwhile, he scored four for the under-18s.
Mark Noble has previously labelled him ‘superb‘. And the fans may be disappointed if he gets the green light to leave.
But Leeds have landed Sam Greenwood from Arsenal and Lewis Bate from Chelsea in the last few years. Both went on to make their Premier League debuts this past season, with Greenwood making his full bow in the vital final day of the season clash with Brentford.
It does appear that there is a path to the first-team for Perkins at West Ham. But Leeds seemingly fancy their chances of convincing the teenager that he would be better off moving to Elland Road this summer.
