Leeds United are interested in Cody Gakpo, with Foot Mercato reporting that the Dutchman is their top target should Raphinha leave Elland Road this summer.

Talk about Raphinha’s future has ramped up in recent days. Arsenal launched a bid for the Brazilian this week. And reports claimed that they are expected to return with a second offer after Leeds rejected their first.

Leeds will surely hope that the 25-year-old ends up staying. But, understandably, the Whites have potential replacements in mind.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has suggested that Leeds want Hakim Ziyech. But it is another name at the top of their wishlist, it seems.

Foot Mercato reports that Leeds want Gakpo. He has just enjoyed a stunning season at PSV Eindhoven, scoring 19 goals and contributing 14 assists in all competitions.

Foot Mercato reports that PSV want £25.9 million for Gakpo. But it is said that that would not be a problem for Leeds.

Arsenal will be left in a really interesting position should Leeds pursue a deal for Gakpo.

Previously, reports have claimed that the Dutchman is the Gunners’ top target for this window. And it was suggested that they led the race ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City.

But it does seem that Arsenal’s focus has now changed and they want Raphinha. So seeing Gakpo move to Leeds may leave Arteta’s side with mixed emotions.

Obviously, it would boost the likelihood of Raphinha moving on. But it would also see a player Arsenal really like move to a Premier League rival.

Gakpo has been labelled a ‘special‘ player. And Arsenal would be wary of him being a success at Leeds particularly if they spend considerably more to bring Raphinha to the Emirates.
