Leeds interested in Hakim Ziyech if Raphinha leaves - journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has told The Football Terrace that Leeds United are interested in signing Hakim Ziyech, and plan to make a move for the Chelsea star should Raphinha leave this summer.

Leeds losing Raphinha in this window is looking increasingly likely. For some time, it had appeared that he may be Barcelona-bound. Reports have claimed that he has agreed a five-year contract with the Catalan giants.

But it is Arsenal who have made the first official move for the Brazilian. The Gunners have seen a bid rejected. And they are expected to make a fresh offer.

But Mikel Arteta’s men are not the only Premier League side keen on Raphinha. Jacobs noted that Chelsea could step up their interest. And they may have an ace up their sleeve with Leeds keen on one of the Blues’ own players.

“Don’t be surprised if Chelsea advance their interest if they bring Hakim Ziyech into the equation because my understanding from talking to Leeds sources separate to Raphinha is that Ziyech, should he leave Chelsea, has been a player on their radar,” he told The Football Terrace.

“So there might be a possibility to do some business with Raphinha coming one way and Ziyech being given to Leeds. Because Leeds don’t just want a chunk of money for Raphinha to the tune of £55 or £60 million potentially, they would love to have a ready-made replacement.

“And they see Ziyech as a viable option and that would remain the case even if Raphinha goes elsewhere.”

Leeds interested in Ziyech

Chelsea fans have not seen the best of Ziyech since his £33 million move to Stamford Bridge. But it would be a huge statement of intent if Leeds could bring the Moroccan to Elland Road.

Gary Neville said the 29-year-old had a ‘Mahrez-feel‘ about him earlier this year after one display. And he would surely have no concern about filling the void Raphinha may leave.

Leeds will be taking a gamble whoever comes in should Raphinha move on. Ziyech however, is a player who would seriously excite a lot of supporters if a deal could take place.
