Report: Juventus begin 'formal discussions' with Arsenal target Locatelli
Arsenal could be about to miss out on signing Manuel Locatelli, with Juventus apparently now in ‘formal discussions’ over a deal with Sassuolo.
The Gunners had emerged as a potential destination for Locatelli this summer. The midfielder is currently starring in the Euros with Italy, enhancing an already glowing reputation in the game.
However, while Arsenal hold an interest, Goal now claim that it is Juventus who are indeed in talks with Locatelli. They suggest that after making initial contact, ‘formal discussions’ are now underway to conclude a deal.
Locatelli has long been linked with a move to Turin. His form with Sassuolo, coupled with his emergence for the Azzuri, meant a big move was always on the cards.
After initially breaking through with AC Milan, Locatelli moved to Sassuolo after enjoying a loan spell with the club. Since then, his reputation – and performances – have sky-rocketed.
Sassuolo are thought to be seeking around £34m for their man. Juve are said to have offered less than that, plus a player.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are looking to press ahead with their summer overhaul it seems. Reports yesterday suggested a deal was close for White, with a fee of around £45-50m expected.
Arsenal never likely for Locatelli with Juventus sniffing
Juve have been in the hunt for Locatelli since before the summer. So the fact he’s played well for Italy has only sped up their pursuit.
He’s a fine midfielder. If Arsenal had managed to land him, then it would have been a real coup. But, alas, it looks like another one will slip the net.
Not that it’s the end of the world. The Gunners are showing intent this summer at least. £50m on White is a big outlay, while others continue to be linked as well.
In terms of Locatelli, it will be just interesting to see how he progresses. He really does look like he has the full package.
