According to Corriere Fiorentino, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has emerged as a target to Serie A side Fiorentina this summer.

The Argentine initially joined Spurs on loan in 2019 and that move was made permanent later. The North Londoners ended up paying a total of £42.3 million to Real Betis for Lo Celso (£27.3m transfer fee + £15m loan fee), but things just haven’t worked out for him.

Since joining Spurs three years ago, Lo Celso has played just 84 times for the club. He has shown his class in flashes, but he just hasn’t been able to remain an important player for Tottenham over a period of time.

Antonio Conte had a look at him for a couple of months last season and decided he didn’t want him. Lo Celso was loaned out to Villarreal in January this year, and now, it has been made clear to him that he is not a part of the club’s future.

La Viola have had a decent transfer window so far. Rolando Mandragora and Luka Jovic have both joined on permanent deals, while Pierluigi Gollini, a player Spurs fans are very familiar with, has joined them on loan.

Fiorentina are keen to do more business this summer, and one of their transfer priorities is a new central midfielder. The report claims they are prepared to make a ‘big investment’ for a new Mezzala, and Tottenham star Lo Celso is a player they are looking at.

Multiple reports have revealed in recent weeks that Lo Celso will be sold this summer. The 26-year-old wants to leave too, which should make a transfer a straightforward one.

However, Daniel Levy makes it difficult for almost every club to sign his players, and we imagine it will not be any different with Lo Celso in this window.

La Viola refused to sign Torreira from Arsenal last month

At the end of last season, almost everyone who followed Fiorentina believed that they would sign Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on a permanent deal.

The Uruguayan, branded as ‘incredible’, spent the whole of the last campaign on loan at Florence, and Fiorentina even had an option to sign him for a fee of around £12.5 million. Just when it looked like they would do exactly that, the Serie A outfit tried to drive the price down. When Arsenal declined, they refused to sign him and pulled out of the deal.

Torreira was far from happy with the decision and rightly so. He was brilliant for them last season, and after it was confirmed that they wouldn’t sign him about a month ago, he posted an angry Instagram message.

“Know that I did my best to continue being part of this club, but unfortunately there were those who, acting in a bad way, according to my understanding, managed to prevent this from happening and that is why I have to leave. I wish you the best for the future,” he wrote last month.
