Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs now want to sell ‘one of the best players in the world’ this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly placed a £17million price tag on a player deemed “one of the best players in the world”.

This is how Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli described Spurs on-loan midfielder Giovani Lo Celso back in February.

Speaking to Super Deporte, Rulli said: “He gives us an option as a team.

“He improves us, and I won’t be surprising many by saying that he is one of the best players in the world.

“I know him well as a player and as a person, so I hope he does very well.”

Lo Celso went on to do very well indeed, impressing as the La Liga side reached the Champions League semi-finals.

But despite his talents, it looks as though Tottenham boss Antonio Conte doesn’t see a role for him in the Spurs team.

“Really interested”

And Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Lilywhites are willing to sell him – but for the right price.

The journalist wrote on Twitter that Villarreal are “really interested” in Lo Celso and that Unai Emery “wants him again”.

Meanwhile, Spurs “want around €20m’ (£17m) for the permanent sale of the Argentine this summer.

Nothing has been agreed yet between Tottenham and Villarreal, added Romano.

However, it looks as though conversations are ongoing, and Lo Celso looks likely to leave N17 this summer.

Tottenham brought the Argentine in January 2020 for a reported £45million.

However, his career at Spurs never really got going amid injury, form issues, and struggling to adapt.

Lo Celso will likely have struggled in wake of the high manager turnover at Spurs in recent years too.

Despite his considerable talent, maybe it’s best that player and club part ways this summer.
