'Arsenal are so disappointed': Journalist says Gunners really thought their unwanted 26-year-old would leave
Journalist Charles Watts says Arsenal are so disappointed that Lucas Torreira did not join Fiorentina permanently this summer.
Torreira spent last season on loan at the Serie A outfit, and Watts said on a podcast that it was really hoped he would be bought already.
It seems like Arsenal were not impressed with the transfer fee the Italian side offered for the 26-year-old and turned it down.
And he was clearly not pleased to have to leave the club behind, based on the message he posted on Instagram about the departure.
Arsenal so disappointed over Torreira
“Lucas Torreira – Arsenal are so disappointed with how that one turned out, over what happened with Fiorentina,” he said.
“They thought that one was pretty much a given that was going to happen.
“Suddenly for it to not happen, then you’re left with the player, it’s just another thing to add to the workload, trying to find him another club.
“You’d think it wouldn’t be difficult because he had such a good year in Italy last season, that other Italian clubs will be sniffing around but we’ll see on that one.”
Mikel Arteta has made it clear which players he wants next season and those he does not and Torreira falls into the latter category.
Hopefully, Arsenal can find another suitor in Serie A as quickly as possible to sort his future and get some money in the transfer budget for him.
Arteta is still trying to rebalance his squad and get rid of the deadwood, and it seems in an ideal world, Torreira would already be a Fiorentina player.
