Everton remain hopeful that they will be able to sign Idrissa Gueye this summer, despite their move for the Senegal international being held up, according to a report from I News.
The Toffees have really sprung into life in the market in the last few days. They have signed Conor Coady and Amadou Onana. And it seemed that a deal for Gueye was next on the agenda.

In fact, reports claimed that Everton hoped to have Gueye available to face Aston Villa this weekend. However, there is now some doubt surrounding the deal.
Reports on Thursday claimed that the move was being held up. I News suggests PSG and Gueye failing to agree terms on a potential pay-off is causing the problem. With that, the Toffees have considered other names.

But that does not mean that Frank Lampard does not expect Everton to sign the 32-year-old. According to I News, the Toffees remain optimistic that Gueye will return to Goodison Park in this window.
The club view a deal for Gueye as the perfect transfer given his availability and experience in England. But perhaps, any announcement will come a little later than expected.
Everton hopeful they will sign Gueye
It would be a big boost for Everton if they can still get a move for Gueye across the line. He showed during his previous spell on Merseyside that he could be one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.
That form prompted PSG to spend £30 million to sign him. And while it has not quite worked out at Parc des Princes, it is surely fair to say that many other teams would have probably made a similar offer at some stage had PSG not.
It is not ideal that the move is taking longer than expected. But the good news is that they still believe that he is likely to return.
