Everton have been left amazed by how Matheus Nunes has improved this past season, with O Jogo in Portugal reporting that the Toffees have made the midfielder a priority for the summer transfer window.

This summer is going to be crucial for Frank Lampard. He achieved the objective of keeping the club in the Premier League this past season. But there still remains a question mark regarding whether he is the right man to take the side forward.

Everton face a tricky summer, with player sales likely to largely decide what kind of budget they are working with. But they are certainly setting their sights on some impressive names.

Reports this week claimed that Everton were one of the Premier League sides keen on Nunes. Newcastle and Wolves have also made approaches for the 23-year-old.

However, Sporting are not willing to listen to offers for the youngster. Instead, his £51.7 million release clause will have to be triggered if any side wants to sign Nunes.

O Jogo has now provided a further update. They report that Everton have been tracking Nunes all season. And they have been left amazed by his development.

In fact, they now look at Nunes as a priority target for this window. There is also positive news regarding the potential fee, with Sporting apparently considering £43 million a reasonable price for Nunes.

It would be a big statement if Everton could bring Nunes to the Premier League. Pep Guardiola previously suggested that he is ‘one of the best players in the world‘ right now.

Much may depend on what kind of money Everton can raise. Of course, there is speculation surrounding Richarlison and a big-money move away from Goodison Park.

But clearly, they want to get a deal for Nunes done. They believe that he could develop into a special talent.
