Report: Eddie Howe now willing to let ‘very dangerous’ Newcastle player leave in January
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has some key decisions to make in the January transfer window.
The right additions to his squad could see the Magpies make a historic return to the Champions League.
Howe has certainly found a winning formula this season, but has been forced to rotate his side at times.
The fitness of strikers Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak has forced him to make changes.
Allan Saint-Maximin has also struggled with injury, and a solution has been needed in on the wings.
This has tended to be Jacob Murphy, who has impressed Howe this season, although Joelinton has also fulfilled this role too.
One player who has found opportunities hard to come by is Ryan Fraser.
The Scot has only started three league matches this season, and has failed to produce a goal or assist.
The Northern Echo now believe Fraser could leave Newcastle in January, with one Premier League interested in him.
Fraser could leave Newcastle in January
The report suggests Southampton are interested in the Scottish attacker.
The Saints have struggled to create chances with an inexperienced side, and Fraser is seen as a favourable alternative.
Fraser’s best spell in the Premier League came with Bournemouth, when he combined brilliantly with Callum Wilson.
The pair haven’t quite repeated that partnership on Tyneside, although Wilson has gone from strength to strength.
If Fraser does leave Newcastle in January, it opens up a space in the squad for another player.
There have been murmurings of Christian Pulisic potentially being a target for Eddie Howe’s side.
At 28 years old, Fraser should be at his peak now, whereas Pulisic still has time to improve.
The ‘very dangerous’ winger still has something to offer in the top flight.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be at Newcastle, who are very much looking onwards and upwards in the transfer market.
