Newcastle willing to considering signing 24-year-old attacker who's just gone out the World Cup - journalist
With the World Cup final now less than two weeks away, Newcastle United don’t have to wait long to see their side in action again.
Eddie Howe will be hoping his players can continue their immense form that saw them move into the top four last month.
Despite having huge resources behind them, Newcastle’s recruitment has been measured under Howe.
The astute signings of Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Dan Burn have revolutionised their defence.
Newcastle fans have yet to see the best from record signing Alexander Isak.
He’s been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the middle of September.
Howe will know that he needs to improve the overall quality of his attacking options to keep Newcastle’s European charge on course.
There have previously been links with Chelsea attacker Christian Pulisic, who is struggling for minutes under Graham Potter.
Jones now believes Newcastle will consider signing Pulisic as he fits into their current recruitment policy.
Newcastle will consider signing Pulisic
Speaking to Give Me Sport about the American, Jones said: “He is still someone that they’d be willing to consider. I think he does fit with where they’re headed in terms of recruitment.
“He wouldn’t be considered as a superstar coming in and that’s important. I think he would be a good fit for the style of play too.”
Pulisic couldn’t prevent the United States being knocked out of the World Cup by the Netherlands at the weekend.
The £150,000-a-week forward scored against Iran and provided two assists in his four appearances at the tournament.
Puslic certainly showed glimpses of the quality that convinced Chelsea to sign him from Borussia Dortmund for £57.6m.
Howe will be hoping Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson hit the ground running after the World Cup break.
With Newcastle willing to consider signing Pulisic, the club recognises that it can’t rely on their immense form to carry them for the rest of the season.
