Report details Celtic transfer blow as European side in talks to sign £5m flyer
Celtic’s pursuit of Manchester City right-back Yan Couto might have just suffered a blow – with a European outfit reportedly opening talks. Previous reports suggest that Celtic have taken a look at a loan for Brazilian flyer Couto. But now, a new report suggests Braga are in talks to get the teen.
Couto, 19, joined Manchester City for £5million (A Bola) in the summer of 2020 from Brazilian side Coritiba and immediately went out on loan to Girona. Clocking up 30 appearances, City are looking for Couto’s next loan – a step up. Sky Sports claim Celtic want to sign Couto on loan for 2021-22.
But it appears Celtic have been overtaken in pursuit of the right-back. That is because Braga have opened talks with City over a move for the defender, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola. A move to Liga NOS might be tempting for Couto, given his native country of Brazil speak Portuguese.
Couto a stunning Celtic signing, but a losing battle with Braga keen
Indeed, it looks as if Celtic – who were knocked out of the Champions League by FC Midtjylland after extra-time on Wednesday – knew this might happen. A move for Couto has not progressed further than interest. More recent reports state that Celtic are closing in on a move for Aurelio Buta.
Couto would have been a brilliant signing for Celtic but it appears the Brazilian is likelier to join Braga. Other than Braga, the A Bola report says the right-back has interest from Spanish and English clubs. Buta might be the right-back Ange Postecoglou brings to the club this summer.
