Things went from zero to 100 real quick for Arsenal fans as what seemed like a dull day has now turned into a really exciting one thanks to Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira.

Fabrizio Romano and multiple other journalists and media outlets have claimed that Arsenal are on the verge of signing the talented 22-year-old after agreeing a deal with the reigning Portuguese champions.

Like many other journalists, David Ornstein too claimed that Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Vieira.

In his piece on The Athletic, the journalist reported that the Gunners will pay Porto an initial €35 million (£29.9m), with an additional €5 million (£4.2m) in potential add-ons depending on the fulfilment of the clauses included in the deal.

Ornstein also writes that Mikel Arteta is believed to be the driving force behind the move to sign Vieira. The Arsenal boss had been expressing his amdiration for the Porto man for months, and it looks like his wishes will now come true.

The report further reveals that Vieira is expected to fly over to London on Thursday evening to complete his move to Arsenal. Romano revealed earlier that a medical has been scheduled to take place on Friday.

If Ornstein and Romano are to be believed, Arsenal should be able to complete the deal over the weekend. Vieira’s signing should be announced shortly after, and we must say, this could prove to a sensational move.

The Porto midfielder had a remarkable campaign last season as he helped his side win the Portuguese league title. He scored seven goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions, and he was on the radar of multiple top clubs.

Reports revealed last month that Liverpool were keen to sign Vieira, while just yesterday, it was claimed that Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were looking to make a move for him.

It really does look like Arsenal have won the race for Vieira’s signature, and it will be interesting to see how he’ll fare in Arteta’s system next season.
