According to a report from Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona are now very interested in signing Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

Xavi Hernandez has really turned things around at the Camp Nou. Barca looked lost under Ronald Koeman in the first half of the season, but since the legendary Spaniard’s arrival, they’ve reached a whole new level.

Barcelona signed Ferran Torres, Adama Traore and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window. All three players have been brilliant so far and Xavi wants to strengthen his side even more in the summer.

The big name on the Catalans’ wish list is Salah, who is arguably the best player in the world right now.

Barcelona want to sign Mo Salah to replace Ousmane Dembele

Barca have been linked with the likes of Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski in recent weeks, but the report claims that it’s Salah who’s on top of their wish list now.

The Egyptian, labelled as an extraordinary goalscorer by Ian Wright, will enter the final year of his contract this summer and talks over a new deal aren’t progressing well at the moment. There’s a small chance that Liverpool could cash in on him and Barca are hoping for just that.

The report reveals that Salah is ahead of Lewandowski on Xavi’s shortlist and the Blaugrana believe that the Liverpool man will not only be their marquee signing, but also a replacement to Ousmane Dembele.

The French winger has just a few months left on his contract and he’s expected to walk away for free this summer.

Salah has been absolutely incredible for Liverpool this season. He is the best player in the world in many people’s eyes and he has every right to demand whatever he wants before he signs a new deal.

Liverpool, however, have never been keen to break their wage structure. That has resulted in a stalemate in contract negotiations and that could see the Egyptian force his way out of the club this summer.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Salah’s next contract will be the biggest one of his career and you can’t really blame him for looking for the best offer.

However, with a year still left on his deal, it won’t be a surprise if Liverpool just decide to keep him at the club until the end of his contract in 2023.
