Report: Aston Villa could now let £8m player leave who hasn’t featured since December, club want him for free

PSV Eindhoven are keen to sign Aston Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi this summer, according to ED.nl.

The Dutch publication believe that El Ghazi is keen on returning to the Netherlands before the transfer window closes.

El Ghazi has told Villa he’d like to join PSV, and personal terms are not thought to be a problem.

However, PSV want to bring in 27-year-old for free, and this could be a stumbling block for any potential deal.

The Dutch international was signed by Aston Villa for £8m from Lille in 2019, after his initial loan move was turned into a permanent deal.

He’ll always be remembered as a Villa hero, after scoring the first goal in the play-off final that saw the Villains return to the Premier League.

PSV keen to sign El Ghazi

It’s been a tough twelve months for El Ghazi at Aston Villa.

After starting Villa’s first three matches last season, he then made a flurry of substitute appearances.

His final cameo came against Chelsea last December, before going out on loan to Everton for the second half of the season.

It’s safe to say that move was a disaster for El Ghazi, playing just 11 minutes of league football on Merseyside.

Steven Gerrard has reportedly been happy for El Ghazi to go out on loan again this season, but a more permanent solution now seems best for all parties.

El Ghazi is clearly no longer in Gerrard’s plans, and his only appearance this season has come with the under-21s.

The left winger will be hoping that PSV remain keen to sign him even if Villa demand a fee, although both clubs should be able to find a solution.
