Everton had a chaotic January transfer window, which started with Rafa Benitez in charge and ended with Frank Lampard in the dugout.
Benitez oversaw the departure of Lucas Digne after falling out with him, selling him to Aston Villa, with winger Anwar El Ghazi coming the other way.
Speaking on the Overlap, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher said he cannot get his head around the El Ghazi signing at all.

“Everton are the worst-run club in the country. Probably one of the worst-run clubs in Europe. They have to be. That’s not just because they’ve spent lots of money and it hasn’t worked out. That’s happened before.
“Some of the things that Everton do, it’s unbelievable. When you think of what they did in January, bringing two full-backs in then sacking the manager a week later.
“Bringing El Ghazi in; what was that about? You brought El Ghazi in from Villa – a winger – Benitez brought him in on loan. I don’t even know why.
“That’s why they’ve had five or six managers. That’s why I fear for Frank Lampard a bit. Everton Football Club… it’s an absolute mess.”

Perhaps El Ghazi was brought in to smooth over the swift exit of Digne – which in some ways makes his signing look even worse.
Everton could have backed either Digne or Benitez in their fall-out, but ended up offloading both within a short space of time.
El Ghazi is yet to start a game for Everton and he has only made two substitute appearances totalling 11 minutes during his loan spell so far.
Carragher is right to highlight that signing as a symptom of the mess going on behind the scenes at a club which is deeply in the relegation battle and may only get out if three teams prove worse rather than clawing themselves away.
