Nobody has shown any interest in signing Villa's 27-year-old, Gerrard may have to loan him out - journalist

Aston Villa have had no interest in Anwar El Ghazi during the summer transfer window despite their attempts to move him on.

The Birmingham Mail claim that the 27-year-old has not attracted any suitors so far as Steven Gerrard looks to further reshape his squad.

They say that during Gerrard’s first summer at the club, he may be forced to settle for a loan deal to get rid of the wideman.

But that would not be especially helpful, because El Ghazi’s contract expires at the end of next season, so a loan would effectively be the end of his Villa career anyway.

El Ghazi could leave Villa on loan

When asked by a Villa fan if there had been any takers for El Ghazi, journalist Ashley Preece wrote: “Not just yet.

“Haven’t heard or been told of any interest.

“Villa might have to shake hands on a loan. His contract expires next summer (June 2023).”

El Ghazi spent the second half of last season on loan Everton but that did not go to plan whatsoever.

Rafa Benitez signed the wideman but was sacked soon after and replaced by Frank Lampard, who preferred other options.

Villa did better out of that deal, getting Lucas Digne through the door, but El Ghazi is proving tricky to get rid of this summer.

It remains to be seen if they settle for a loan deal, but it seems like they are keen to get the player out of the door.
