Report: Ashley Phillips set to sign Blackburn contract despite Spurs interest
Ashley Phillips is set to sign a contract with Blackburn Rovers despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the teenage centre-back, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (11/9; page 63).
Phillips is a player plenty has been said about considering that he has only made six appearances for the first-team at Ewood Park.
The 17-year-old was labelled a ‘phenomenal‘ talent by former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray. And it seemed during the summer that he was about to join Tottenham.
Reports claimed that Spurs were about to win the race to sign Phillips. Fabio Paratici was set to watch the centre-back in action before seemingly getting a deal across the line.
However, there was a twist almost immediately. Another report then suggested that Phillips actually wanted to stay at Ewood Park.
And it seems that Blackburn are indeed on the verge of agreeing a deal with the starlet. The Sun on Sunday (11/9; page 63) reports that Phillips is about to sign a contract with his current club.

It may be disappointing for the Tottenham hierarchy that Phillips is set to stay. But you can understand why he has taken that decision.
Jon Dahl Tomasson has named him in every single match day squad after he missed out on the opening day of this season. Obviously, at Tottenham, first-team minutes would be much harder to come by.
Spurs’ interest will likely remain. And it may be a move that they look to do further down the line. Certainly, if he realises his full potential, Phillips will be a Premier League player sooner or later.
