Arsenal are said to be leading the race to sign Rafael Leao, with La Repubblica reporting that the Gunners are the team showing the strongest interest in the attacker.

Leao has already enjoyed his best campaign yet with AC Milan. He went into this season having scored six league goals in each of his previous two years with the Rossoneri.

This time around, the 22-year-old has seven in Serie A and 10 in all competitions. He also has six assists for Milan.

Unsurprisingly, his form is attracting attention. And La Repubblica claims that Arsenal are leading the charge amongst the English sides interested in signing the Portugal international.

They suggest that half of the Premier League are interested in the former Sporting starlet. But it would seemingly be Arsenal who find themselves on pole position.

The Gunners are certainly going to strengthen their attacking options this summer. Mikel Arteta did not make a single signing during the January transfer window.

Instead, several players left. And they now find themselves looking incredibly light in a number of areas – including in the final third.

Reports have claimed that they want players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Alexander Isak, and even Armando Broja.

Leao can play up front. However, he has been used on the left of a front four this season. And clearly, he is thriving in that role.

‘Spectacular’ Leao another exciting target for Arsenal fans

Leao has been dubbed the Portuguese Mbappe in the past. And former Manchester City striker Rolando Bianchi previously labelled him ‘spectacular‘.

He looks to fit the profile Arsenal have looked for in the last few windows. Leao will be 23 by the start of next season. So he certainly has the potential to improve further.

Arsenal are reportedly in a strong position. Plenty of fans will hope that they capitalise when the window opens.
