Arsenal now look set to act in the January transfer window, with a forward at the top of their shopping list.

A report from The Express suggests that Mikel Arteta’s side have chosen their desired target.

Before the World Cup, a central midfielder was likely to be the position Arsenal were looking to strengthen.

However, an injury to Gabriel Jesus during the World Cup has refocused their plans.

Although there’s no official timescale on Jesus’ return, he’s expected to be out for at least a few months.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of forward players over the past few weeks.

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix is reportedly on the market, and could leave the Spanish club in January.

After missing out on him last January, Dusan Vlahovic could also be on the move too.

However, the Express believe Arsenal want to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk ahead of anyone else.

Mudryk has already made it clear he wants to join Arsenal in the near future.

The 21-year-old is now at the top of Arsenal’s shopping list, and have already opened talks with his representatives.

Arsenal want to sign Mudryk in January

The report from The Express states: “Despite firm interest in Wolves’ Pedro Neto, Villarreal’s Yeremy Pino and Moussa Diaby of Bayer Leverkusen – Arsenal now consider Mykhaylo Mudryk to be their primary attacking target after opening dialogue with his representatives.”

The ‘unstoppable’ attacker has been the subject of intense interest for a while now.

His reputation has been dramatically enhanced by his performances in the Champions League this season.

Despite Shakhtar’s elimination, Mudryk managed three goals and two assists in six appearances.

He’s also averaging a goal involvement every game in the Ukrainian top flight.

Although Arsenal want to sign Mudryk, there may need to be some negotiation on asking price.

Shakhtar director of football Darijo Srna wants £86m for the exciting left-winger.

Arsenal will be hoping to secure Mudryk for a lot less than that, especially with the winger being so desperate to leave.

The 21-year-old could be the signing that gives their title challenge that extra boost.
