Report: Arsenal and Chelsea both offered 'world class' 23-year-old in club record deals

There’s been a lot of talk about Joao Felix already and according to 90Min, he is indeed a player who has been offered up to clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

90Min reports how Felix is being touted around Europe as Atletico and his agents look to ensure a deal is done in some capacity during the January window. Felix has fallen out with Diego Simeone a bit at Atletico and there is an acceptance that the player will move on.

However, the big sticking point is the price of any permanent transfer and 90Min reports this is where Chelsea and Arsenal could struggle. Despite both clubs being offered Felix’s services, it’s claimed that neither club would be willing to pay the £100m or so Atletico want.

Of course, should either Arsenal or Chelsea pay that money then it would be a club record buy for both. Chelsea did pay just shy of £100m for Romelu Lukaku in the past, while Arsenal’s £72m splash on Nicolas Pepe remains their biggest outlay.

Felix, who has been dubbed ‘world class’ by the current Atletico CEO, got himself on the scoresheet in the World Cup but couldn’t prevent Portugal going out to Morocco in the quarter-finals.

TBR’s View: Permanent Felix deal seems impossible for Arsenal

The fact Atletico want around £100m for Felix says it all. There is no way this deal gets done in January for Arsenal, unless they really do fancy a huge splash in the market.

Felix is a quality operator who brings a lot to the table. However, at that money and given it’s January, it’s hard to see it getting done.

Chelsea look the more likely of the pair. While other clubs mentioned, like Man United, could fancy their chances as well. Rest assured, though, whoever gets Felix is getting a top player who could well prove a huge hit.
