Neto looks to have been dealt a blow if he hopes to join Arsenal this summer with Mundo Deportivo reporting that contact with the Gunners has cooled in the last few hours.

Mikel Arteta will surely strengthen his goalkeeper ranks in this window. There has been speculation surrounding the futures of Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson.

And one of the players on their radar has been Neto. The 32-year-old is one of the candidates to leave Barcelona as they look to reduce their wage bill.

Mundo Deportivo claims that both Neto and Barca have been working to find a new home for the Brazilian.

However, they have had little success thus far. And it appears that another potential route may soon be closed off.

According to Mundo Deportivo, contact with Arsenal has cooled in the last few hours. It is not yet clear why the talks have fizzled out.

Would Neto really want Arsenal move with Leno still in place at Emirates?

You can understand why Neto is tempted to try and leave the Nou Camp. He has previously impressed as first-choice with the likes of Fiorentina and Valencia in the past.

At Barca however, he has been an understudy.

But a move to Arsenal would arguably make little sense. Leno has not left the Emirates this summer. So as things stand, the German will surely remain Arteta’s number one.

In fact, recent reports suggested that Neto was seen as a perfect backup to Leno.

Perhaps he was willing to bide his time. Leno has not always been the most convincing number one at the Emirates.

There is still time for talks to be reignited and a move to potentially take place.

But if Neto does not receive some kind of assurances from the Gunners, surely he will not be too interested in swapping being Barcelona’s backup for a similar spot at Arsenal.
