Report: Arsenal have clear run to sign Neto from Barcelona as Spurs land Gollini
Arsenal could still press ahead with their interest in Barcelona stopper Neto this summer, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
The Gunners are desperate to land a new goalkeeper this summer, and Neto is one of a number of players on their list. Aaron Ramsdale of Sheffield United is thought to be the number one choice, however.
But Sheffield United’s £30m+ asking-price is proving troublesome. And now MD claim that with Spurs landing Pierluigi Gollini, Arsenal now have a free run at landing Neto.
Mikel Arteta is thought to be a fan of the 32-year-old Neto. He sees the Barca man as being a ‘keeper who can use his feet well, and play a key role as a number two to Bernd Leno.
Arsenal have been linked with Neto for some time now. In January, he was also a target, but the Gunners opted against the move.
Barcelona are clearing the decks this summer and Neto, like others, is one player who can walk away from the Nou Camp with minimal fuss.
Given the money Arsenal are on about spending on goalkeepers, going for Neto on the cheap might be ideal.
He’d happily play number two, and won’t cost the world. The opposite of Ramsdale, who will surely want first-team football with the Gunners.
Neto is a good professional and also a quality stopper as well. It’s easy to forget that at times.
