If Matt Doherty and all of his Tottenham Hotspur teammates didn’t know how intense training is under Antonio Conte, yesterday’s session would’ve done the trick.

Spurs flew over to South Korea a few days ago for their pre-season. They face a K-League XI tomorrow before taking on La Liga giants Sevilla at the Suwon World Cup Stadium this weekend.

Conte has a reputation for demanding 200 per cent from his players every single day. On Monday, the Italian probably demanded a bit more than that, and some Spurs stars just couldn’t take it.

The Athletic reveal that Spurs’ training session yesterday was so brutal that some players collapsed, while a few others struggled for breath. Every single one was left absolutely exhausted by the end of it.

Alongside Conte, Tottenham’s training session yesterday was held by fitness coach Gian Piero Vetrone. The latter’s methods are so intense that he has even earned the nickname ‘The Marine’.

After the fitness drills, the balls were introduced and that’s when Conte stepped in. The Italian demanded the same intensity from all his exhausted players, and unsurprisingly, some couldn’t perform at their best.

Bryan Gil is said to be one of them, who reportedly missed numerous chances, while new signing Fraser Forster apparently ‘bellowed at his defenders’ yesterday.

Doherty was another one who Conte wasn’t too pleased with, so much so that the Italian reportedly went up to him and demanded that he move the ball a lot quicker during a passing drill.

Doherty could be sold

Doherty remained Tottenham’s second-choice right-back for a big part of last season, and that may get worse this time as Spurs are keen to bring in a new right-back.

Djed Spence is the name who has been heavily linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and if he does arrive, that will push Doherty even further down the pecking order.

That’s probably why the Irishman doesn’t have a future at Spurs. Reports recently claimed that Doherty, now 30, has been told by Tottenham that he can leave the club before the window shuts.

That is a shame, but it really is the best move for both parties.
