Report: Antonio Conte now wants Tottenham to sign ‘really impressive’ World Cup star in January

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has now made it clear he wants to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

That’s according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, who believe Spurs could make a move in January for the 20-year-old.

The report suggests that Italy’s biggest clubs aren’t currently in a position to make a move for Hincapie.

They mentioned that Inter can only sign Hincapie if Alessandro Bastoni leaves, which may also suit Spurs.

Tottenham have also been linked with the Italian, but it now appears as though Hincapie is their main target.

The Ecuadorian started every game for his country at the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

He’s been the subject of interest from Tottenham for some time, with Spurs reportedly preparing a bid for Hincapie this summer.

In the end, Tottenham brought in Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona to fill that left centre-back spot.

However, with the Frenchman unlikely to stay beyond the end of the season, Spurs need to start considering his replacement.

Conte now wants to sign Hincapie to fill that gap, with the Leverkusen defender one of Europe’s most exciting young centre-backs.

The report suggests that Fabio Paratici is ‘studying the possibility of making an offer’ for Hincapie.

They believe that Spurs want to get ahead of their rivals to sign the ‘really impressive’ defender by trying to bring him in next month.

Tottenham are quickly putting together a group of young defenders who could play alongside each other for a long time.

Cristian Romero is only 24, and is now a World Cup winner. He’s the sort of player Conte could build his team around for years to come.

In Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie, Conte has two wing backs who could grow into those roles over the next few seasons.

It’s no surprise Conte wants to sign Hincapie, as he could easily be the next piece in this puzzle.

He’s already performing at a high level in the Bundesliga, and has the potential to be a top defender.

His technical ability on the ball, combined with being an elite tackler, make him a brilliant prospect.
