Report: Alexander Isak keeps being mentioned in Newcastle transfer talks
Alexander Isak is a name who keeps coming up in discussions at St James’ Park as Newcastle United look to sign a new striker during the summer transfer window, according to a report from The Athletic.
Anyone who expected Newcastle to splash the cash this summer has been in for a surprise. The Magpies kept themselves in the Premier League with some brilliantly pragmatic business in January.
And they seem to be continuing with that strategy this summer. Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett all look to be incredibly smart additions.
The focus will likely now be signing a new striker. Of course, earlier in the window, it appeared that Hugo Ekitike may be the name to come in on Tyneside. However, no move has materialised despite a fee being agreed.
The Athletic has now put forward a number of names. And they suggest that one of the options who has regularly been discussed is Isak.
Newcastle are also admirers. Steve Nickson has been monitoring Isak for several years. And his name keeps coming up in transfer discussions. However, his asking price is said to be a potential issue.
Isak reportedly has a £67 million release clause at Real Sociedad.
Newcastle continue to discuss move for Isak
Isak has had a mixed career to date. The hopes for the forward were extremely high. However, he never made the grade after arriving at Borussia Dortmund.
His time in Spain has seen his stock rise again. And he shone at Euro 2020 with Sweden. Gary Lineker labelled Isak ‘exceptional‘ during the tournament.
He was not prolific last season. But his ceiling is incredibly high.
And he clearly has big admirers working behind the scenes at Newcastle.
