According to Mundo Deportivo, Alexander Isak was told by his agents to reject an offer from Manchester United in favour of a move to Newcastle.
The Swede joined the Magpies for a club-record £63 million fee from Real Sociedad last week (Sky Sports). Newcastle deserve a lot of credit for getting this deal over the line, especially as Isak was linked with a whole host of Premier League clubs – including Manchester United.
Agents told Alexander Isak to reject Manchester United and join Newcastle instead
Although multiple clubs from the Premier League were linked with a move to sign Isak, it was Newcastle who took the initiative and got the deal done.
However, the Magpies weren’t the only club Isak received a proposal from, Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United also reportedly tried to lure him in.
The report claims that the Red Devils made a ‘juicy offer’ to Isak in an attempt to sign him. However, the Swede, on the advice of his agents, rejected a move to Old Trafford and decided to join Newcastle instead.
Real Sociedad were apparently aware of the offer that Manchester United made to Isak. However, the Red Devils did not table a formal bid to sign him – probably because he made it clear that he wasn’t going to join them.
The report further claims that at Newcastle, Isak will be tripling his salary.

TBR View:
The last person to reject Manchester United in favour of a move to Newcastle was probably Alan Shearer. He turned out to be a decent player, didn’t he?
Isak, branded as an ‘exceptional’ striker, could really take Newcastle to the next level. He’s big, strong, quick and isn’t too bad in front of goal either.
He could prove to be a game-changer for the Magpies, and if he goes on to even have half as good a career as Shearer did in the Premier League, he will become a hero at St James’ Park.
Newcastle take on Liverpool tomorrow, and it will be interesting to see if Isak will get his debut.
